Two people were killed and two teenagers were seriously injured in a car accident in Apopka, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred shortly after 6 p.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Rock Springs Road and Alexandria Place Drive, an area known for heavy traffic and frequent collisions.
Troopers say an 18-year-old Apopka man was speeding south on Rock Springs Road in a Ford Mustang with a 17-year-old passenger. As the car approached the intersection, a 63-year-old man driving a van northbound attempted a left turn onto Alexandria Place Drive.
According to FHP, the van turned into the path of the Mustang, causing the Mustang to crash into the van’s right side. Two Apopka residents in the van — an 81-year-old man and a 94-year-old woman — died from their injuries.
The Mustang driver and his 17-year-old passenger were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and the teen remains in critical condition. The van’s driver was not transported.
FHP says the crash remains under investigation.
