Dog Bites

A dog bite is a traumatic and unfortunate event and it may result in a serious injury. Often, a bite will result in permanent scarring, nerve damage, and a significant risk of infection. Many times there is psychological harm that lasts well beyond the physical injury. Tragically, children are often victims of dog bites. These cases are extremely sad and heartbreaking.

As described by Florida Law, a dog’s behavior is always the responsibility of its owner. meaning that if a dog bites someone, the owner is liable regardless of the dog’s breed or the reason for the attack. A dog’s owner cannot avoid liability by attempting to prove they did not realize the dog would bite or by stating that the dog had never bitten anyone in the past. Past behavior is irrelevant. Liability is based upon ownership of the dog. This is known as “Strict Liability.”
